CSCS GREEN CARD?

No Longer An Easy GO Card for CSCS!

From 1st July 2014 the green Construction Site Operative (CSO) card will no longer be issued.  There will be a new green CSCS card only available for people working in labouring occupations.

What is CSCS?

The CSCS or the Construction Skills Certification Scheme is the leading certification card scheme for construction. The CSCS’ role is to provide a scheme for the construction industry that confirms site workers’ training and qualifications. Many site workers who are carrying out skilled occupations have been applying for the green CSO card as the easiest route to gain access to construction sites.

This makes it difficult for contractors to use CSCS cards as a reliable method of checking that site workers have the appropriate skills to work on construction sites safely and effectively.

For contractors and clients the cards bring business benefits that help to improve on-site efficiency and cut costs.

To apply for a CSCS Card you need to:

  • demonstrate you have achieved the recognised qualifications required for your occupation
  • pass the relevant Health Safety and Environment test
  • submit a signed application form
  • pay fees of £17.50 for the test and £30.00 for the card.

Most contractors and construction clients insist that workers on their sites hold the appropriate CSCS card for the work they undertake.
